Nancy is a passionate, self proclaimed, PR representative for insects. While earning her Master's degree at the University of Georgia in Entomology, it became crystal clear that most people did not see insects the way she did. Following her Master's, Nancy flew to the heart of the Ecuadorian cloud forest where she worked in an ecolodge. After two years, Nancy traded her leafy green jungle for the concrete jungle of Quito where she designs her own tours under the name SciBugs. She has been working in Ecuadorian Tourism since 2015.

My teenage son and I made this trip together, and what an absolute joy and thrill it was. Totally stress-free from start to finish, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were enriched by both the experiences and time spent with our fellow travelers. Nancy’s meticulous attention to detail, planning out every facet of the trip so that we didn’t have to worry about a thing, was amazing. Every place we lodged, toured, and dined was superb, and she was an incredible host from start to finish, sharing her extensive knowledge of Ecuador, its beautiful people and rich culture, as well as its seemingly endless natural wonders – especially the insects, of course! This trip surpassed our very high expectations in every way, and I cannot recommend the experience with Nancy as host strongly enough. The variety of ecosystems, plants, and animals was truly remarkable, but the most extraordinary aspect of the trip for us, which I did not at all anticipate, was how much we enjoyed the companionship and camaraderie of our group of like-minded nature lovers. Since returning home, we have often missed the Amazon and all of the wonderful people with whom we shared this experience. I hope we have the opportunity to return to this magical place again someday and the good fortune to cross paths with our traveling companions in the future. Thank you for everything, Nancy! You’re the best!

The best part about this tour was that I just showed up and enjoyed myself – no stress! Seriously, I just had to pack my bags and get on a plane to Quito, Ecuador. After that, Nancy took care of everything. She and her team picked us up from the airport, checked us into the hotels, got us on the bus, plane, or boat to every location, guided us on every hike, and fed us fed us (a lot – no one goes hungry on Nancy’s tours!) for every meal. Before I arrived, I was anxious and worried about how I’d manage on the trip, but Nancy and her team made it so easy for me and the rest of my tour group. I had zero travel stress while I was with her group. I loved my time in Ecuador! On my tour, the guide team included Nancy, Dr. Isaac, and Jon. While in Waita, we also had Diego as our Amazon guide, and the lodge staff. All of them were an absolute delight, as were all other people who helped us during our travels. We had polite and skilled drivers like Ramon, our boat driver. Rita and the entire Waita Lodge staff were amazing. Diego was kind, knowledgeable, funny, and was able to spot and identify animals from hundreds of meters away. Dr. Isaac was always there, ready to take care of anything we needed, and he was also hilarious and fun to be around. Jon was very friendly, and he gave some great presentations and was fun to hang out with on the trails. Nancy was compassionate, understanding, and enthusiastic – you couldn’t help but be interested in all the cool stuff she was sharing with us. She was also very well organized and efficient. She got us everywhere on time, treated us all as individuals, and made sure we all got our moment in the spotlight. She even gave me extra time at the frog park to make sure I found all the little critters I was looking for. Everyone in our group became friends, and I think it was because of Nancy's kind heart and her excellent skills as a tour guide! 10 out of 10 😊 – highly recommend!

EvoTour 2025 exceeded all our expectations. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience we hope to be lucky enough to repeat one day. Nancy, Jon, and their team did an excellent job at keeping us safe and engaged. We saw so many birds, insects, mammals, fish, reptiles, and amphibians in their natural habitat that it felt like living inside a nature documentary. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun and supportive. They managed to accommodate our food restrictions even in the thick of the jungle, and the doctor who traveled with us addressed any concerns kindly and professionally. We couldn't recommend it more - everyone should do it if they can. There's no better way to learn about the incredible diversity of the Amazon rainforest. A definite 10 out of 10!

How fun and deeply grounding it is to gather with like-minded folks for a common purpose. Marley is so much more than an encyclopedic neotropical naturalist. It is clear how he is loving the sharing of a place that means a lot to him. The pace was good. The turtles were astonishing.

This is my second time on the Beach Vacation Nature Journalling. Marley Peifer and Nancy Miorellie are excellent instructors and guides! I have become braver in the out of doors thru their examples, and especially curious exploring night time insects--it's a different world! Marley's teaching is laid back and approachable for any experience level or interest. His enthusiasm for nature is contagious. He makes learning and exploring a growth experience. Marley's earnestness and spirit make him an effective ambassador for all ages to engage them in protecting our collective natural world. The food and accommodations were wonderful. Looking forward to more in futures!

I took a trip to the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador with EvoTour 2025, and it was honestly one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. Nancy was warm, organized, and on top of everything from the moment we signed up. She answered all our questions quickly and made the whole process easy. We even arrived a couple days before the tour started, and Jon still came to pick us up from the airport, which was incredibly thoughtful. The entire trip felt seamless—transportation, transitions, timing—everything ran smoothly. Nancy even brought a doctor on the trip, which made everyone feel safe and supported the whole time. And beyond how well it was run, the setting itself is unreal. In addition to being in one of the most beautiful places in the world - the Amazon rain forest - it genuinely felt like being in a nature documentary 100% of the time. I had to rub my eyes over and over because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and that I was actually there. What really made this tour special was how much we learned. Nancy, Jon, and Diego gave fascinating lectures throughout the trip on entomology, evolution, and the civilizations of the Amazon. We also learned a lot about the rainforest itself, the animals, insects, and the culture, which made the experience feel deeper than just being in a beautiful place. I was a little nervous going in because I’m more of a city person and I wasn’t sure how I would feel in the rainforest, but the group was welcoming and supportive. Everyone was excited to share what they knew, and it made it easy to jump in and enjoy it. Nancy’s care and leadership were the reason the whole experience felt so supportive. This is something I actually wrote to her afterward, and it sums up how I felt: "Hi Nancy, I have so much to say and I don't know if I will be able to capture it all in words. I just wanted to say thank you—from my heart. You are truly amazing: so generous, so caring, and such a natural connector who wants everyone to feel cared for and included. You make people feel seen and safe in a way that’s rare. And I loved how your love extends to everything around you, with as much tenderness for insects as for people (or the other way around:)). Jay and I have never wanted to do organized trips because we didn’t want to be stuck with a group of strangers. But what you created—through your sheer personality and the way you lead—was something completely different. You brought people into the depth of their kindness and turned strangers into a real, warm group. That doesn’t happen without an exceptional leader who leads by example. This trip was truly special and exceeded my expectations a million times over. Thank you for the part you played in making it what it was—I feel really lucky to know you." Huge shout-out to Diego from Waita Lodge—his knowledge of the rainforest and the native Amazon people is incredible, and he has an amazing ability to spot animals while still keeping things safe and respectful for the wildlife. He’s also the owner of the Waita Lodge co-op, which is focused on preserving the Amazon rainforest, and it was inspiring to be part of something that supports real conservation work. I also feel very lucky to have met Doña Rita at Waita Lodge. She was born in that same area, and she’s stayed deeply involved with the lodge as she grew up. Watching her was a powerful reminder of how strong women are. She was using the machete, cooking, handling what needed to be handled—quietly, efficiently, often in the background without much acknowledgment. I want to make sure she gets real credit here, because she felt like a backbone of Waita Lodge, and she absolutely deserves to be recognized. Also, the food was excellent. I have celiac and I’m vegan, and Nancy made sure I get Gluten free and vegan meals and snack even in the depth of the Amazon rain forest. Overall, this is a 5/5 tour and I’d recommend it to anyone. Even if you’re not that into bugs, this trip will change how you see the rainforest—and nature in general.

Our family loves bugs. Meeting Nancy was the highlight of our year! Words can hardly describe the experience. We connected with her through one of the area's highest-rated lodges. She went there in advance to help other guests and to get up to speed on some of the area's unique features. When we arrived, she crafted a bespoke experience for us that perfectly matched our interests and needs. She organized art sessions for our daughter, canoed us to see monkeys, and brought us to the highest canopy level to see birds. But she also organized night hikes to help our son see his favorite bugs: something no other guide was ready to do. As the days progressed, other guests were drawn in. We love how she was able to leverage her deep knowledge on the subjects. She presented PowerPoint discussions on biochemistry, genetics, and structural color, and also gave us plenty of time to relax. Anyone who gets to interact with Nancy is in for a special treat!
